STAYING COOL @ THE ROTUNDA, BIRMINGHAM

To celebrate 15 years in the iconic city centre building, Staying Cool invited us to be part of a year long series of events that showcase some of Birmingham’s creatives. We were asked to install a big work along their penthouse windows that could be seen from the streets below. Seeing the familiar sights but from a different perspective influenced our design. We took the lengthened word ‘cool’ from the brand and incorporated the city’s best Brutalist and mid-century architecture within it, showing off their dramatic forms and over looked detailing. We hoped to inspire an appreciation of the much maligned ‘concrete monstrosities’ which, much like the Rotunda itself, are/were in beautiful, over looked and in danger of being demolished.
