YOTEL, SHOREDITCH

The Young V&A and Yotel partnered up for their exhibition Japan: from Myth to Manga and wanted their windows painted to reflect this partnership.

We love Japanese wood block printing of the Ido period, being particular fans of Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi's work which is shown in the exhibition. We particularly enjoy incorporating fine line work and scratched surfaces into our designs that have a wood block look.

All design references were taken from the V&A’s collection. The main window had a striking image of Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa with a Kuniyoshi octopus, then on the side windows was a collection of Hirosinge landscapes along with a Kuniyoshi dragon and a Hirosinge carp.
